A trio of Norwegian technology players unveiled plans for a floating substation and “hydrogen factory” linked to offshore wind that can process green fuel at sea and reduce the need for costly power infrastructure.
Kongsberg, Moreld and Arendals Fossekompani will jointly launch the Hydepoint substation platform system as “a complete solution for receiving, converting, and transmitting the full energy potential from offshore wind farms, with reduced dependence on the onshore power grid”.
Hydepoint will be launched with an eye on Norway’s forthcoming offshore wind licensing round, which the partners said will “require significant strengthening of the power grid.
