Developer partners Orsted and Eversource have tapped contractor Kiewit to build what will be the first American-built offshore wind substation, for the South Fork project being built in the US Atlantic.

The 1,500-ton facility, which will collect power produced by the turbines at the 132MW wind farm off New York’s Long Island and channel it to the onshore grid, will be fabricated at Kiewitt’s Ingleside yard near Corpus Christi, Texas.
