The 3,500-tonnes HDVC-Light transmission system, developed by Swedish power giant ABB based on one of its onshore designs, will convert the electricity generated by E.ON’s 400-megawatt Borkum 2 wind farm in the North Sea and transmit it to shore via a 175km DC cable onto Germany’s national grid.
