The wind farm, which straddles the Buitengaats and Zee-energie zones off the northernmost Dutch coast in 28-36 metres of water, will eventually supply electricity to some 785.000 households.
"Generating first power is obviously a huge milestone in the project,” says Matthias Haag, chief executive of project development company Gemini, which is headed by Canadian independent renewable energy group Northland Power.
“The actual delivery of sustainable electricity is a great reward following the dynamic building period we have had so far.”
