Installation of the prototype of floating wind pioneer X1Wind’s innovative PivotBuoy design is on track to take place in October off the Spain’s Canary Islands, with construction set to start imminently following sign-off by the project partners on the detailed engineering for the concept.

Being built in Santander, the 1:3 scale 6MW steel unit, based around a tension leg platform with single point mooring system that allows the structure to ‘weathervane’ to better harness the wind stream, is the first downwind design to join the pack of new-generation floating offshore models.
