Italy’s first floating wind farm could be turning ‘within four to five years’, if all government approvals are granted to start-up developer 7Seas to build a landmark 250MW project in the deep waters off Sicily.

The €750m ($840m) plan by the developer, which has entered a partnership with Danish fund manager Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners for the project, is to construct a 25-turbine farm off the Marsala coast in the Strait of Sicily, using Stiesdal Offshore Technologies (SOT) design TetraSpar platforms topped with 10MW turbines.
