FERC, an independent agency, has various regulatory functions including review of certain mergers, acquisitions and corporate transactions by electric companies.
The transaction, which NextEra and HEI announced last December, remains subject to several other approvals including by the Hawaii Public Utilities Commission and HEI shareholders.
