“Explosive growth” in Asia’s offshore fleet will help fuel 723GW of global wind additions in the 2019-28 period, said research group Wood Mackenzie Power & Renewables.

Offshore wind expansion in markets such as Taiwan, Japan and South Korea, and a growing role for sea-based turbines in China, were among the trends cited in Wood Mackenzie’s latest Global Wind Power Market Outlook Update.

The Asia-Pacific, excluding China, region will reach 19GW offshore by the end of the period, up from just 111MW at the end of last year, the study predicts.
