Brazil’s wind and infrastructure construction projects, all growing at rapid rates, are shackled largely to buying steel from the country's dominant provider Usiminas.
Brazilian steel is said to be some 70% more expensive than imported steel, including shipping and taxes. Usiminas did not return a request for comment.
BNDES had been considering allowing companies that use its financing to purchase imported steel.
