The figure will include 254GW of onshore wind and 66GW offshore, and could supply 24.4% of the continent’s power needs.
Europe currently has about 129GW in place capable of meeting about 10%.
The prediction is the central scenario of EWEA’s latest forecast, which the body said depended on a number of policy and regulatory factors.
They include a clear governance structure for the EU’s 2030 RE target, power market integration and a “revitalised” Emissions Trading Scheme.
