EDF plans to build what is set to be the first floating offshore wind farm in English waters by 2025.

The French energy giant’s EDF Renewables unit said it will use floating technology for the second phase of its Blyth Offshore Demonstrator (BOD) plant off Northeast England.

The news comes a day after a landmark industry report said UK floating wind could be winning renewable energy deals at subsidy-free levels below wholesale prices as soon as 2029, if its government gets behind a fast, high-volume deployment ambition.
