Brazil’s National Development Bank (BNDES) approved a R$1.26bn ($370m) loan to Engie for construction of the 360MW Umburanas wind power complex, in the body's first large-scale wind financing under President Jair Bolsonaro.

The bank will finance about 78% of the total investment in the project, which started commercial operations earlier in 2019 using GE 2.5-116 turbines.

This is the first large-scale loan approval given by the BNDES for wind power projects under the Bolsonaro administration, which began governing earlier this year.
