German manufacturer Enercon has unveiled a new 6MW onshore wind turbine for low- and medium-speed wind sites flying 86-metre-long blades – the OEM's longest-ever design.

The E-175 EP5 with a 175-metre diameter rotor features a direct-drive 'e-nacelle' with built-in electrical systems for faster installation on site and optimum integration into electrical energy networks, Enercon stated.

“With the E-175 EP5 we are launching one of the largest rotor diameters currently available to the European market, adding a highly competitive wind energy converter [WEC] designed especially for the low wind segment to our range,” said Enercon chief commercial officer Ulrich Schulze Südhoff.
