Floating wind had a “dream” outcome from the recent ScotWind leasing round – but construction of its projects will from now on be under intense scrutiny, and any mishaps could set the sector’s credibility with investors and governments back by a decade, industry experts warned.

January’s ScotWind saw a potential 15GW-worth of seabed awarded to floating – more than half the 25GW total – in what was widely hailed as a breakout moment for an offshore wind technology that still barely has 100MW actually operating.
