The Dutch cabinet set a 70GW offshore wind target for 2050 that's one of the most ambitious seen globally in a bid to underpin massive electrification of the Netherlands and produce green hydrogen to decarbonise industries.

The government earlier this year had already doubled its previous offshore wind ambition for 2030 to 21GW. The small North Sea nation last year had 3GW of operating wind farms at sea, ranking third in offshore wind capacity in Europe after the UK and Germany, according to WindEurope figures.
