The government of Frisia has closed a co-operation agreement with the developers of the 320MW Fryslân near-shore wind project to take a stake worth up to €127m ($134.42m) in the future array in the artificial Ijsselmeer lake off the Dutch province.

It is the first time that a Dutch province plans to participate in an offshore wind project.

Support so far has been granted only by the federal government in The Hague via its SDE+ support mechanism, which finances capacity to be built under the country’s current 3.5GW
