The non-profit WindMade organisation released draft standards to qualify for the mark, which backers hope will drive demand for wind energy from consumers and businesses in the absence of national policy, particularly in the US.

The standards, launched on Global Wind Day, are open for public comment until 15 August.

WindMade – funded initially by turbine maker Vestas with participation from the Global Wind Energy Council, the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA), World Wildlife Fund, Lego and others – will move to implement a label for companies beginning in September.
