The Netherlands have started marine spatial planning for a doubling of the country’s 2030 offshore wind target, to more than 22GW.

The Dutch infrastructure and water management ministry in November presented a draft for an amendment to its 2022-27 North Sea programme that would massively boost the Dutch target from a hitherto envisaged 11.5GW.

The ministry said the doubling in the offshore ambition is needed to reach a more ambitious CO2 emissions reduction of 55% – compared to 1990 levels – as requested by the EU.
