The US state of Virginia’s giant 2.6GW Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW) power project – the country's largest in development – would be rendered “untenable” if key production guarantees built into the State Corporation Commission’s (SCC) approval of the flagship array are not removed, Dominion Energy’s CEO, Bob Blue, has warned.
The SCC approved the utility’s $9.8bn megaproject, located in 75-120 feet (22-36 metres) of water some 27 miles (43km) off the coast, on Friday (5 August), but included surprise cost-reporting requirements and performance requirements it said were based on forecast ratepayer impact.
