Developers confirm interest in New York offshore wind zone

EDF Renewable Energy, Deepwater Wind, Fishermen’s Energy, and Cape Wind developer Energy Management Inc. are among the companies that have expressed interest in leasing the rights to an offshore wind zone close to New York City that could hold more than 700MW.

On 2 June the US Department of Interior (DOI) announced the proposed lease sale for a large zone off the coast of New York’s Long Island, and confirmed its intention to hold a lease auction by the end of 2016.

The DOI has held similar auctions for zones in federal waters off a number of Atlantic states, from Massachusetts to Virginia, attracting developers like RES and US Wind.
