Developer Vineyard Wind has awarded Belgian contractor DEME Offshore the job of transporting and installing the foundations at its eponymous 800MW Vineyard Wind 1 project off the state of Massachusetts, which is slated to become the first utility-scale sea-based array in the US when complete in 2023.

The contract also includes the fitting transition pieces and scour protection for the development’s turbines, as well as installation of the substation foundation and platform for the project, located some 15 miles (24km) off the coast of Martha’s Vineyard Island.
