The Deepwater Wind Energy Center (DWEC) would have about 1GW of nameplate capacity, the company says on its Web site.
The project would replace Deepwater’s earlier 350MW proposal. Company executives indicate that the Interior Department’s new focus on offshore wind permitting influenced their decision to dramatically expand the project.
Providence-based Deepwater describes the DWEC as “the first of the ‘second generation’ of offshore wind farms in the United States, it is larger, farther from shore, capable of producing cheaper electricity, and uses newer technology than offshore wind projects proposed in the United States to date”.
The
