Nordex will see its 5MW turbine used for the first time at one of Sweden’s largest wind farms, as developer OX2 is switching to the large model at its 286MW Åndberg project.
OX2 originally had foreseen the use of 53 of Nordex’s N149/4.0-4.5 machines in the 4MW claseee, but the customers and the manufacturer now have signed a contract for the more powerful turbines at the wind farm in the province of Härjedalen near Lillhärdal in western Sweden.
The wind project was sold to private investment house Ardian in February of 2019, and Nordex just a month later introduced its N149/5.X turbine in March 2019.
"Technologically the N149/5.X is based on the N149/4.0-4.5 turbine type from the Delta4000 series,” Nordex chief sales officer Patxi Landa said.
“The N149/5.X can also be flexibly operated in different modes, depending on project requirements - and now in the 5+ MW power range too."
Following its completion in 2021, Åndberg will annually provide clean electricity in excess of 800GWh, making it one of the largest wind farms in Sweden.
