Germany’s maritime and hydrographic agency (BSH) has granted Orsted the official project approval for its 900MW Borkum Riffgrund 3 wind project in the North Sea, following up on an earlier permit for the nearby 242MW Gode Wind 3 project.

The Danish utility is slated to build the two wind farms in parallel to form a 1.14GW offshore wind cluster. Orsted in Borkum Riffgrund 3 has combined three formerly separate projects (Borkum Riffgrund 1 & 2, and OWP West), which it had secured in tenders for pre-developed projects in 2017 and 2018.
