Pattern Energy has acquired the SunZia transmission line project between central New Mexico and south-central Arizona and will build a 3GW onshore wind farm with the same name to provide its full carrying capacity.

The combined 550-mile (885km) bi-directional 525kV high-voltage direct current (HVDC) line across the arid desert southwest and wind farm in New Mexico will cost $8bn to construct, the largest renewable energy infrastructure project in US history, according to Pattern.
