Global offshore wind developer Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) has signed an outline agreement with regional partners over a 3.5GW offshore wind project off Vietnam.
Denmark-based CIP signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Asiapetro and Novasia Energy over development of the La Gan project, off Binh Thuan province.
Vietnam is widely tipped as one of the most promising emerging Asian wind power markets, on and offshore. While the nation already has a growing base of intertidal nearshore projects, La Gan would be among a planned wave of major offshore developments.
The Danish Energy Agency recently signed a co-operation deal to help Vietnam develop what’s said to be a 160GW potential offshore wind potential.
CIP is one of the world’s most active offshore wind developers, with a growing footprint in Asia that includes Taiwan, Japan and Australia.
"CIP has some of the most experienced offshore wind professionals and expertise in the industry and extensive know-how in supply chain development. With this project, we commit to cooperate with our local partners to make this project a showcase for successful technology-transfer and utilisation of local competences," said CIP Partner Michael Hannibal.
The Danish group in June launched what it claimed is set to be the world’s largest ever green energy fund, with ambitions to underpin up to $15bn of renewables projects globally.
