China for the first time installed more offshore wind capacity than any other nation last year with 1.8GW, said data from the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) that confirmed a worldwide market dip flagged first by Recharge.

The UK came in second with 1.3GW in fresh installations at sea, followed by Germany with 900MW.

“China is an extremely exciting market for the global offshore wind industry,” said Gunnar Herzig, managing director of the World Forum Offshore Wind, which will release a detailed overview of its own global offshore wind data next week.
