An innovative modular wooden wind turbine tower concept that could challenge conventional steel designs on cost and strength – and wins hands down on ‘carbon-neutrality’ – is slated to be ready for mass-production by 2022, following key prototype tests in the north of Sweden.

The 30-metre-tall tower, erected in Björkö outside Gothenburg by developer Modvion with a V27 Vestas turbine, will next be built in a full-height 110-metre version, for installation topped with a 2MW machine as part of an order from local energy supplier Varberg Energi.
