Provincial electric utility BC Hydro estimates its dam will cost C$8bn ($7.1bn) and provide clean energy for 100 years.

The BC government has conditional environmental approval to the project, which would located on the Peace River southwest of Fort St. John.

The project must still decide whether Site C is the best investment decision for generating new, large-scale electricity generation.

“Wind energy now represents the bulk of BC’s lowest-cost, emission free renewable energy generation opportunities,” says CanWEA President Robert Hornung.
