Billionaire Warren Buffett’s PacifiCorp electric utility holding company is proposing to invest $3.5bn to build 3GW of new wind and solar capacity and a related transmission line, while upgrading more than 900MW of existing wind turbines.
Highlights of the 2017 Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) filed for approval with regulators across PacifiCorp’s service territory include plans to:
- Build 1.1GW of new wind projects, primarily in Wyoming, by the end of 2020.
- Construct a 225km segment of the 500kV Gateway West transmission line in Wyoming that will enable additional wind generation and improve the operational efficiency of the broader system by relieving transmission congestion in the state.
