Norwegian oil major Equinor and Polish utility Polenergia have been awarded contracts for difference (CfD) for a combined 1.44GW of Polish offshore wind capacity by the country’s energy regulator.

As their projects form part of a first batch of 5.9GW in pre-developed projects, the companies have been granted the support directly, without the need for a tender. The CfD award, however, is still subject to a final approval from the European Commission, which could demand a lower support rate.
