Federal offshore energy regulator Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) announced it has reduced the maximum number of oil lease sales to three in its latest five-year plan, down from a proposed 47 and the fewest ever.
The number is the minimum required by landmark climate legislation to allow offshore wind acreage sales to continue and reach the Joe Biden administration’s 30GW by 2030 capacity target.
