Romania’s upper house of parliament, the senate, has approved a law to establish a support system for what could be the first offshore wind projects in the Black Sea.

The legislation still needs to be approved in the Eastern European country’s lower house, the chamber of deputies, as well.

The legislative procedure comes after Romania’s state-owned power company Hidroelectrica earlier this year confirmed to Recharge that it plans the Black Sea’s first-ever offshore wind project with a capacity of up to 500MW, which could be operational by 2026 if feasibility studies go well.
