Conservationists have launched a challenge to Israel’s largest wind farm, claiming it endangers bird life around the project site on the Golan Heights.

Enlight Renewable Energy said the Society for Protection of Nature in Israel (SPNI) has petitioned Israel’s High Court in a bid to overturn earlier approvals for its up-to 190MW Genesis Wind project as part of the national infrastructure plan.

If it proceeds as planned, the project would easily outstrip the 96MW Emek Habacha project, which Enlight already has a full docket of permits for and is advancing on the Golan Heights with the planned use of GE turbines.
