The US government has unveiled a long-anticipated offshore wind lease sale in a large swathe of water off the states of New York and New Jersey, the first competitive sector tender since the election of Joe Biden earlier this year.

The lease sale, covering acreage in a vast swath of the New York Bight, a shallow area off Long Island, is targeting development of 7GW of wind energy, enough to power more than 2.6 million homes in the two states.
