SPP includes Kansas, Nebraska and Oklahoma – among the best US onshore wind resource states - and parts of Arkansas, Missouri, New Mexico and Texas. Non-profit SPP’s mandate is to ensure reliable bulk power supply, adequate transmission infrastructure, and competitive wholesale prices of electricity.
The 26-page report, The economic benefits of wind energy in the Southwest Power Pool, estimates that wind’s yearly benefits result about half from lowering the cost of producing electricity and about half from reducing harmful air emissions.
