Iberdrola-controlled Avangrid is addressing a growing need in the US to unlock additional capacity on overhead transmission lines for solar and wind with a pilot project in western New York that, if successful, could support the state’s ambitious clean energy goals.
With onerous permitting hurdles a major impediment for building new transmission lines, a challenge that has no easy solutions, the White House is pressuring utilities to better utilise existing ones to enable more renewables.
