Atlantis said the “predictable and cyclical nature of tidal generation” at its MeyGen tidal project on Scotland’s Pentland Firth means it can share the limited local grid access available with a four-turbine wind farm under development nearby.
MeyGen – which is slated to grow to 398MW by the early 2020s – was connected to the 33kV Ness of Quoys network last month, ahead of initial power generation from its 6MW first phase in the second half of this year.
