Areva owns Adwen as a 50-50 joint venture with Spain’s Gamesa, which is separately in talks to form a wind-power alliance with German giant Siemens.
A number of reports have emerged suggesting that the fate of Adwen has become a sticking point in negotiations, given Siemens’ existing dominance of the offshore wind market.
Siemens, already the clear market-leader in the offshore sector, is said to face headaches on several fronts – commercial, regulatory and political – if it were to try to incorporate Adwen into its existing operation.
