The first, dubbed Sea Reed, is the brainchild of compatriot industrial groups DCNS and Alstom, which have partnered to develop an advanced semi-submersible concept based around the latter's 6MW Haliade 150 machine by 2017.

The labour is being divided, with naval contractor DCNS carrying out studies on the sizing, industrialisation and installation of a three-column semisub – a design that sits half-submerged in the water anchored to the seabed with giant mooring lines – and Alstom in charge of adapting and integrating the Haliade with the floating system.
