Through its regulated Iowa utility, Interstate Power and Light, Wisconsin-based Alliant is seeking regulatory approval to expand its existing 200MW Whispering Willow wind farm in the Hawkeye State and perhaps develop projects in other areas too.
Whispering Willow reached commercial operation in 2009 in Franklin County, central Iowa, using Vestas V82-1.65MW turbines.
Alliant’s $1bn plan, announced with Iowa Governor Terry Branstad in tow, is contingent on a speedy approval from regulators, which would allow the company to safe-harbor turbines and other equipment and qualify for the full production tax credit.
