Acciona Energy is close to pulling the investment trigger on a 145MW wind project in the US, and beyond that hopes to build one or two additional renewables projects here by 2020, the company’s new North America chief executive, Rafael Esteban, tells Recharge.

Chicago-based Acciona Energy USA, part of Spanish infrastructure group Acciona, recently acquired a “quite advanced-stage” wind project in the US, Esteban reveals. The company already owns roughly 800MW of US renewables, mostly wind.

“We’re finalising the development ourselves … and in the following months we expect we’ll request approval from corporate to go ahead with the investment, and then construct it over the next 12-24 months.”
