An official close to the plan's development told Recharge that European thinking on how best to develop a North Sea supergrid have “matured, as we are living in a different economic world than we were five years ago when the grid initiative was launched.
"I think the project is still very ambitious, but it has been scaled down in just the same way as Europe's 2030 ambitions for renewables have been scaled down compared to five years ago when we started work on this project," said the official.
