“Technology is fundamental to reducing cost and to make feasible the different [power generation] alternatives,” said Elizabeth Farina, energy spokesperson for the Brazilian Coalition for Climate, Forests and Agriculture, which represents over 100 companies and NGOs.

Farina said the government needs to bolster its science and technology policies.

“Although the private sector has invested a lot, this does not mean that Brazil doesn't need to integrate these efforts with a greater interaction with technology centres, the public sector and universities,” she said.
