Just over five years after Conservative Prime Minister David Cameron entered Downing Street stressing his party’s green credentials, his government is now an existential threat to the UK’s renewables industry.
Plans to close the Renewables Obligation (RO) subsidy scheme a year early and slash the feed-in tariff (FIT) for small-scale renewables by up to 87% are putting tens of thousands of wind and solar jobs at risk, while mounting uncertainty over its long-delayed Contracts for Difference programme is threatening investment in offshore wind.
