Jonathan Cole, offshore managing director at ScottishPower Renewables, speaking at RenewableUK’s annual conference, says the UK has become dangerously dependent on ageing fossil fuel power plants, many of which face closure.
“The power margins this winter are so tight there is the terrifying possibility of cuts,” he warns.
“The government has placed two big future bets on fracking and nuclear power,” says Mike Parker, head of onshore wind at RWE Innogy.
