The deal with local developer ViveEnergia is also said to be the biggest direct investment so far by a Chinese firm in Mexico’s burgeoning renewables sector.

Envision and ViveEnergia plan to jointly bring the wind farms to a ready-to-build stage and complete the first project by the end of 2016.

The two companies have set a target of getting 1.5GW of projects into operation by the end of the decade.
