Developers through September brought 2.966GW of wind capacity into commercial operation versus 2.03GW a year earlier, according to the agency’s Energy Infrastructure Update. New solar capacity totaled 1.137GW, down from 1.928GW.
After wind, natural gas was the next largest source of new capacity in the first nine months with 2.884GW, down from 5.808GW a year earlier. Other sources were biomass, coal, geothermal, hydro and oil.
