US rejects Keystone XL, adding momentum to Paris talks

The US State Department, headed by climate hawk John Kerry, said it had determined that “the national interest of the US” would be best served by denying TransCanada’s application to build the Keystone XL, seven years after it was submitted.  

In a speech at the White House, Obama said he agreed with that decision, adding: “The pipeline would not make a meaningful long-term contribution to our economy.”
