In August, shortly after the Taiwanese Bureau of Energy raised its offshore wind installation target from 3GW to 4GW by 2030, Taipei announced plans to invest NT$88bn ($2.7bn) in offshore wind development by 2020 and NT$670bn by 2030, at as many as 36 locations in the Taiwan Strait.

Foreign interest in Taiwanese offshore has been percolating over the past few years, with Denmark’s K2 Management signing on in autumn 2014 as a general consultant for one of three utility-scale offshore wind projects now in development.
